This was an expo on the subject of energy sustainability, and how to promote it in the Midcoast Maine area (Damariscotta). It was sponsored by the Midcoast Green Collaborative, www.midcoastgreencollaborative.org a group of business persons, public officials and other citizens from the Damariscotta area who have joined together to promote a viable ‘green’ program of socially responsible economic growth in Midcoast Maine.
The Expo was on Friday, April 20th, and Saturday, April 21st, 2007 at the Central Lincoln County YMCA in Damariscotta. It was very well attended and included many booths and a number of vehicles, including one battery-electric GEM Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, plus several Honda and Toyota hybrid vehicles.
EVMaine.org had a display there so I had the privilege of meeting many folks who are interested in eventually having an electric car. Many said that they would buy one right now if a reasonably-priced, highway-capable electric vehicle was available in this Country.
Below are a few photos from the Expo showing the booths of several organizations that also favor zero emissions electric cars. There were many other booths that featured such topics as energy-saving home insulation, solar home hot water, etc. A very informative and fun event, overall.
Please allow time for the photos below to load.
This was the GEM battery-powered neighborhood electric vehicle from Newcastle Chrysler. It had the canvas doors option, but GEMs can also be ordered with no doors or with hard doors.

Here’s Jory Squibb with his 105 miles per gallon microcar. Although not an electric car, it is a good design to look over if you are thinking about building your own small electric car.
