‘Avatar 2’ Trailer is Finally Here for a First Look at ‘The Way of Water’

Remember the 2009s Avatar? The the greatest movie of all time? A Avatar 2: The Way of the Water trailer finally revealed the first look at James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel.

The trailer debuted at the CinemaCon film industry event end of April and played before the screenings of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after the Marvel movie released last Friday.

GameSpot previewed the trailer during a 3D theatrical screening on Monday, and it’s visually spectacular. We see Na’vi navigating the shining waters and lush jungles of Pandora and working with humans. It looks like Jake Sully and Neytiri (Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña) have at least one human child (who must wear a full-face breathing mask to survive on Pandora) or a half-human, half-Na’vi child — that’s hard to tell for sure in the trailer.

“I know one thing. Wherever we go, this family is our fortress,” Jake says.

Avatar 2 is about to be released December 16. Cameron once again directs original stars Worthington, Saldaña, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver, as well as new faces Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin and Kate Winslet.

Fox planned to produce no less than four Avatar suites. A Disney and then COVID takeover had already pushed back release dates, but what’s another year or two when you’ve waited over a decade? Avatar 3 is slated for release in 2024, and then the remaining Avatar movies are slated for release in 2026 and 2028.
