Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date set for October 28, 2022.

Modern Warfare was released on October 25, 2019, and its sequel follows in the same footsteps releasing virtually the same week of the year.

Looking at the Call of Duty games before these three, which represent a new interconnected Call of Duty experience with cross-progression and Warzone, Call of Duty games have been released in October and November throughout the franchise’s history – the only exceptions being the standalone release of Modern Warfare Remastered in June/July 2017.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Trailers

We finally have a good Modern Warfare 2 trailer to tell, following the global reveal on June 8. You can watch that trailer below:

As you can see, this game picks up three years after the events of Modern Warfare and features some familiar faces from previous games. The team must jump between locations in an attempt to sabotage an enemy offensive after a US airstrike accidentally kills a foreign general.

Prior to this trailer, we only had a brief live-action trailer, which announced the reveal of Modern Warfare 2 on June 8th.

We also got a glimpse of the gameplay via a world premiere at Summer Game Fest. You can check that below.

There will be a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta, but it will come to PlayStation consoles first. Players will need to pre-order the game to gain access, but as of now there is no confirmation on when this beta period will take place.

We’ll update this guide if we hear more.

Modern Warfare 2 Missions

So far, we only know about four Modern Warfare 2 missions: Nightwar, Wet Work, Tower, and a vehicle-based mission.

In Nightwar you’ll take control of Soap on a nighttime raid on a terrorist safehouse, in Wet Work you’ll master the game’s stealth mechanics on land and sea as Gaz, and in Tower you’ll need to descend into abseil – head or feet first – down a giant skyscraper in an effort to clear it.

These three missions give players autonomy over how they play, giving way to Infinity Ward’s philosophy of creating CoD 2.0.

In the Nameless Vehicle Mission, you’ll be able to shoot out of windows, commandeer other cars, and basically do whatever you want. Apparently, you can drive any vehicle you want in Modern Warfare 2, so this one might be worth checking out.

Modern Warfare 2 Features

We’re getting lots of new features in Modern Warfare 2 from swimming, new movement mechanics, and more. But perhaps it’s the movement mechanics that will make most gamers’ heads spin.

Infinity War is bringing sliding and diving back to the game, which should change the way players fight, while taking the fight to the water’s edge. Swimming will now be a key part of Modern Warfare going forward – and you’ll be able to ADS and shoot while diving.

You’ll also be able to jump into Call of Duty by grabbing a ledge and choosing to peek or not. According to Infinity Ward, this is called ledge snapping, and it will give players more options during their gameplay.

The Gunsmith system is also getting an overhaul for Modern Warfare 2, with around 70 attachments available per weapon. This will give players full control over weapons and playstyle and help shake up the meta. Players will also be able to modify specific weapon attachments through a tuning screen, but only when you reach a certain level for that weapon.

MODERN WARFARE 2 Multiplayer Modes

Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer is a staple of the game, and while all recent news has focused on the game’s extensive campaign, there’s plenty to get excited about if you’re a fan of multiplayer.

The likes of Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, Team Deathmatch are all back, but alongside two new modes: Knockout and Prisoner Rescue.

Knockout is a 6v6 mode, but you only get one life per turn although there are re-rolls. Players will have to fight for a package and whoever controls it at the end wins the game.

In Prisoner Rescue, two teams will be tasked with protecting or rescuing a hostage – similar to Rainbow Six Siege – and you can break through walls and doors to achieve this.

MODERN WARFARE 2 Terrain Upgrades

Infinity Ward has revealed four of Modern Warfare’s field upgrades so far. These are:

  • Tactical camera
  • Drilling costs
  • DDOS
  • inflatable lure

All four will be available in multiplayer from launch.

Well, that’s all there is to it – everything we know about the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date right now.
