DNF Duel gameplay trailer arrives after year-long hiatus

The last time we saw DNF Duel was when it was first announced at the Dungeon and Fighter Universe Festival in December 2020. The annual event celebrating the long duration The MMO series of the same name was the first to feature the 2.5D combat spin-off. This was also when we learned about Arc System Works’ involvement in the game. Now a new DNF Duel the gameplay trailer has dropped and it’s the first we’ve seen of the game in almost a year.

The game is co-developed by Arc System Works and Eighting. It’s the same way the studio worked with Bandai Namco to Dragon ball fighterz. Western players probably haven’t seen Eighting in a very long time, as their last major title to hit our shores was Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Since then, the team has been developing oriental exclusives Kamen Rider games, for the most part.

As has been the case with Arc System Works in recent years, this trailer is very short. Even with less than a minute, we can see what the game looks like. This new DNF Duel The gameplay trailer feels more like an expansion of last year’s one, showcasing the cast even more.

Speaking of the cast, we’ve only seen five characters so far. Being based on an MMO, these characters have no names and are instead referenced by their respective classes. In this trailer, we see the Berserker (shirtless guy with a big sword), Inquisitor (armored girl with the big exploding ax), Striker (punch girl), Grappler (judoman) and the Ranger (the cow- boy anime).

Less dungeon, more fights

In the trailer, we can see a bit more of one of the few features that we know of from the game, special to special cancellations. This means that one special move can be negated into another, represented by a sparkling flash emanating from the character. While other games have played with this idea in the past, being a core feature in DNF Duel means combos should be exciting and fun to watch. We can also see an armor breaking move from the Inquisitor and a canceled jump from the Berserker.

As expected from something called Arc System Works, the game is bursting with style and flair. The trailer ends with what is quite possibly the big Berserker cinematic super move. We can also see a bit of the Grappler’s super, near the start of the trailer.

Many questions still remain about DNF Duel although. Questions such as an exit window and whether or not it will be a free game remain. Hopefully these questions will be answered soon, as I can’t wait to go to the lab with the Striker and see what crazy expansions I can come up with.
