Gran Turismo 7: Release date, trailer, gameplay, news and more

Gran Turismo 7 immerses players in the life of a self-taught professional racer. Polyphony Digital recreates Hollywood streets, tree-lined grounds, and other landscapes with beautifully rendered graphics. Luxury racers return in a full catalog of cars and options that are more customizable than ever.

But these, minus the technological limitations depending on the day of release, are a given when it comes to Gran Turismo. What’s new and what’s coming back? Well, here’s everything we know about Gran Turismo 7.

Gran Turismo 7 release date

Gran Turismo 7 was supposed to be released sometime in 2021. However, as the pandemic hit in the second half of 2020, Sony eventually pushed it back to 2022. In an interview with GQ, a PR rep quoted the Covid-related challenges as the main reason for the delay.

GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and has therefore moved from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have slowed down over the past year .

Gran Turismo 7 release date has now been confirmed to be March 4, 2022

Gran Turismo 7 Trailer

Sony unveiled Gran Turismo 7 during its PlayStation 5 presentation alongside other highly anticipated titles like Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok. The teaser showed the selection of cars speeding through scenic tracks. Even with crisp animation and graphics, there wasn’t much explanation of settings, features, or the timeline.

A few more trailers have been released since, including the GT7 PlayStation Showcase trailer in September 2021.

Over 30 minutes of GT7 PS5 footage was also revealed in Sony’s latest State of Play in early February. Eurogamer editor Martin Robinson wrote:

“The 30-minute presentation reinstated the line that this is a Gran Turismo game that goes back to the series’ roots, with a new focus on optimization and the player’s journey from the start behind the wheel of a humble starter car after the more stripped-down, multiplayer-focused Gran Turismo Sport.

Platforms Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 will be launched for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. It appeared in Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase as a PlayStation exclusive. Later, in an interview with PlayStation Blog, Head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hustle said:

“Where it makes sense to develop a title for PS4 and PS5 – for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 – we will continue to look at that.”

So, being a PlayStation exclusive, it’s hard to imagine Gran Turismo 7 coming to PC and other consoles until later.

Gran Turismo 7 beta

There have been reports of a so-called Gran Turismo 7 beta sign-up on the Experience PlayStation website. However, it was a false alarm. According to Eurogamer, the site allowed users to access placeholder keys like 1234-5678-9012. These, however, offered no access to a beta version.

PlayStation did not specify if this page was supposed to go live or not. The beta page no longer shows trailers or codes. However, it is possible that the company wanted to release it in the future. This wouldn’t be the first time the developers have planned a beta test for a Gran Turismo game. After all, GT Sport was supposed to get a beta even though it never happened.

Location of Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 has no set location. In GT World, players can participate in circuits around the world. Trial Mountain, a fictional location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, is just one example. The locations appear to belong to one of three territorial groups: Americas, Europe, and Asia/Oceania.

Longtime Gran Turismo director Kazunori Yamauchi said he wanted something “more real than reality” in an interview with accounting firm KPMG. He remembers collecting insects, climbing mountains and playing in the river as a child. However, he said it’s probably not possible now in Japan to have the same experience.

What we do know is that there will be 90 “track routes” at 34 locations. It can therefore be a mixture of several tracks in the same place or country, which gives variety even if the immediate environment of the track remains the same.

“In that case, why not create a kind of digital nature and convey the complexity and the severity of the world when we go into nature and feel that things are not going as planned,” he said. ‘That’s what I fantasize about.’

It’s unclear whether that means focusing on fewer urban settings, like something away from skyscrapers and bright lights, or placing Gran Turismo 7 in an entirely different time frame. Despite Yamauchi’s words, the trailer sets do seem to resemble modern sets and are rooted in reality. We’ll have to see how Yamauchi’s vision manifests.

Gran Turismo 7 Gameplay

At heart, Gran Turismo 7 remains a racing game. The main part of the game is to choose cars, upgrade them and race on different tracks all over the GT world.

Players get a home base, where you examine your various cars and their specs in a garage. Car and auto parts stores and centers of learning such as schools surround your home. As for the actual racing piece, the control panel resembles previous versions and other games in the racing genre with speed, acceleration, and current placement visible on screen while racing.

In a YouTube video featuring behind-the-scenes footage from Gran Turismo 7, Polyphony Digitial CEO Yamauchi talked about his passion for cars and what’s new in GT7. Yamauchi also revealed that there will be over 400 cars in Gran Turismo 7.

“Gran Turismo 7 is a complete title and there are many ways to play, whether you’re driving fast, collecting cars, designing liveries in the editor or taking photos, it’s all part of your ‘life with cars’.”

This month, Playstation revealed on Twitter that the DualSense controller will improve sensations like brake lock and terrain changes on PS5.
