(Pocket-lint) – Thor is set to return for a fourth solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a new movie called Thor: Love and Thunder.
It’s one of the most anticipated non-Avengers movies of all time, especially given the news and rumors that have been circulating about it. Although this MCU adventure is still a few months away from its debut in cinemas, Pocket-lint thought now would be a good time to break down everything we know about Love and Thunder so far, along with details on how to make up for lost time before the film’s premiere. and also discuss when and where it will be available to stream after its theatrical release.
We’re even keeping an eye out for the latest trailers and will update this guide when they become available.
Thor: Love and Thunder – Release date
Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on July 8, 2022. It was originally scheduled to hit theaters in February and then May, but has been delayed multiple times due to the ongoing pandemic.
Thor: Love and Thunder – Where to stream

Thor: Love and Thunder – Trailers
The first and only trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is embedded at the top. Pocket-lint will update this guide once new trailers, teasers and featurettes become available.
Thor: Love and Thunder – What to expect
A common theme with Marvel’s comic adaptations for the MCU is that storylines usually differ in small but incredibly significant ways. Love and Thunder is said to be inspired or loosely based on a series of Thor comics, written by Jason Aaron, which sees Jane Foster take on the mantle of Thor when the original Thor loses the ability to lift his hammer. The comic also sees Foster battling cancer.
So, expect to see a female Thor in Love and Thunder. There are other things to know about the film, however, such as Valkyrie’s possible search for a queen to help her rule Asgard and a connection to the Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, in the film’s first trailer, Peter Quill suggests that Thor can figure out his existential crisis by spending time with and “looking into the eyes” of the people he loves. This causes Thor to return to New Asgard on Earth, then on a quest with Korg that will likely lead to him facing off against Gorr the God-Butcher. Confused? Carefree. We’ve summarized all of these plot points and rumors below.
Thor returns as Norse god
Endgame represented the end of a decade-long journey for the Avengers; it was also to be Hemsworth’s last film, according to information on his film contract. This got us wondering if he would play the character again. However, a fourth Thor movie has been announced as part of Marvel’s “phase four” plans, with confirmation that Hemsworth will return as the Norse god.
Hemsworth even posted photos of him playing Thor during filming.

Thompson also let slip that a draft of Love and Thunder even included space sharks.
Jane will wield the Mjolnir
There’s another major star from previous Thor movies returning… Natalie Portman, but she goes from being Thor’s love interest to being the God of Thunder herself. We’ll forgive you if you thought you were done seeing her in the Marvel movies. Portman played Jane Foster in the first two Thor movies but stopped appearing in them after The Dark World in 2013. Thor even mentioned the two breaking up in Avengers: Endgame.

When Marvel announced Love and Thunder at Comicon in 2019, the film’s director, Taiki Waititi, revealed that Portman’s character was returning and wielding Mjolnir as the female version of Thor.
Christian Bale as Villain
Daily Mail has revealed that Christian Bale will play the villain known as Gorr the God Butcher. The actor was spotted on set for additional photography in Malibu, Calif., wearing an all-white cape with his face covered in white paint for filming. Bale’s character is an alien from a planet plagued by environmental calamities and whose prayers to the gods go unanswered.
