Lots of nerds try to mix it up superhero movie trailers with images from other movies, shows, cartoons, etc., and a lot of nerds fail. Either the creator doesn’t have the patience to really hunt for the perfect footage, or the source material doesn’t work because it doesn’t have proper footage, or a million other things. So let me be clear when I say this recreation of The batmanthe new trailer classic Batman: The Animated Series is quite astonishing.

All credit goes to the frequently nerdy pop culture masher-upper Dark mixer for the video. Now watch, enjoy, then we’ll discuss:

Here’s why I assumed this mash-up couldn’t work: the batman of The batman the trailer is unbelievably angry, and there are many, many shots of him being incredibly angry and going after the criminals. But Dark Blender managed to find a collection of shots in TAS where Batman absolutely owns a great bad, which really resonate as substitutes. The revelation of the big “?” the box is actually scarier than the “?” sitting on Riddler’s coffee cup, thanks to Michael Giacchino’s score. The few comedy blips are also excellent. The batmanThe plot floor replaced by Batman reading a newspaper is absolutely outstanding, as is Riddler’s head poking out of a drum in place of the Riddler from the live-action movie waving his face on a giant Times Square TV screen. .

For your convenience, here’s the original trailer that unveiled last weekend at DC Fandome, to better compare and contrast the two.

The batman, with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, an unrecognizable Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / the Penguin, and Paul Dano as Riddler is set for release on March 4, 2022.
