New Chip ‘n Dale Trailer Digs Deeper into Disney+ Meta Comedy

The iconic Chip ‘n Dale chipmunks duo have been under wraps for quite a while at this point, but in less than a month the pair will return to the small screen in the Disney+ movie of the same name, but with a very meta twist. Tic and Tac: Rescue Rangers will see the old sleuths live, and…not quite thrive, in what initially appears to be “the real world,” but actually appears to be an extension of the same setting from the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, in which humans and “toons” live side by side. The official synopsis is as follows:

In “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers”, Chip and Dale live among cartoons and humans in present-day Los Angeles, but their lives are now much different. It’s been decades since their hit TV series was canceled, and Chip (John Mulaney) succumbed to a suburban life as an insurance salesman. Dale (Andy Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgic convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former teammate mysteriously disappears, Tic and Tac must mend their broken friendship and once again face off against their Rescue Rangers detective personas to save their friend’s life.

Rescue Rangers features a sprawling voice cast that includes the likes of Kiki Layne, Will Arnett, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Tim Robinson, Eric Bana, Chris Parnell, JK Simmons and many more. Looking at the trailer below, we at least feel able to hope that Tic and TacThe apparent preference for satire will make this film more than just a rote list of pop culture references, like Loan player one. In particular, the repeated skewer of the early era of CGI animation seems like a gold mine for humor.

Check out the trailer below and keep an eye out. Tic and Tac as it arrives on Disney+ on May 20, 2022.
