New Tinykin Trailer Reveals Big Brains, Boyfriends, And Very Clever Stunts

We’ve been hearing about Tinykin for a while, TinyBuild’s upcoming puzzle-platformer about a shrunken hero leading a team of insects, beetles, and assorted little creatures. And now the new trailer revealed at Future Games Show powered by Mana gave us even more to sink our mandibles into, including a release date.

Tinykin apparently focuses on Milo, a bespectacled explorer who won’t be held back by the fact that he’s less than an inch tall. It looks like a problem, but like so many apparent problems, it reveals all kinds of opportunities. After all, how else could you organize and lead various teams of dedicated insects? Otherwise, how could a simple suburban house from the 90s become a huge playground filled with puzzles? Otherwise, how could you skate on a slippery piece of soap, do stunts and jumps while leaving a trail of bubbles behind you?

Tinykin seems to be taking a lot of influence from Pikmin, with a particular focus on leading small clans of bugs and using them to solve upcoming challenges. We see Milo stacking his pet aphids into totems he can climb, making them carry objects too big for him, and even using them as projectiles to move objects at a distance (and it doesn’t seem to bother them, which shows admirable team spirit).

It’s also rather endearing that the bugs seem to have a lot more personality than just being invertebrate, consumable cannon fodder. Aside from the highly expressive visual design, we see glimpses of entire insect communities Milo can hang out with, and you have to respect any bug bar that uses an old iPod Classic as a makeshift jukebox.

Tinykin is scheduled for release on August 30, 2022, available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, where you can already Wishlist on Steam (opens in a new tab).
