Obi Wan Kenobi streaming guide: episode release dates, plot, trailers and more

Obi-Wan Kenobi has finally launched on Disney Plus, with the first two episodes now available to watch. It’s hard to argue that it’s not one of the most anticipated shows in today’s vast Star Wars television landscape (and we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to upcoming star wars tv shows).

After his battle with Anakin, Obi-Wan took baby Luke to his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, before beginning a hermitage that would last until Darth Maul hunted down the legendary Jedi for one last battle. Or at least that’s what we thought.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will finally establish in canon what happened in the years following Revenge of the Sith and before meeting Maul for the last time. From Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer, the show appears to be set around 10 years after the end of Revenge of the Sith, based on the age of a young Luke Skywalker, who can be seen pretending to pilot a podracer. To help you understand the timeline, you may find our article on the Star Wars movies in order useful.

We also see that the Sith Inquisitors, a group of mercenaries bent on exterminating the last of the Jedi, have reached Tatooine and it’s up to Obi-Wan to hide from them, in order to protect Luke. A new Force-sensitive Inquisitor named Reva will also be in pursuit of the Jedi Master, but it remains to be seen how her story will end.

Considering the series is only six episodes long, and this is most likely the last we’ll see Ewan McGregor play the role he’s made his own, many, including us, can’t wait to watch the entire series.

Will Obi-Wan Kenobi live up to expectations? When did he come out? And what role will Darth Vader play in the most anticipated Star Wars TV series of all time? Let’s break it down.

Obi Wan Kenobi: Trailers

We got a few trailers for Obi Wan Kenobi ahead of its release. The first was the trailer which was unveiled on March 9. As the trailers go, it’s pretty fantastic. We see Obi Wan, the Inquisitors, and most importantly, we hear the absolutely phenomenal Duel of the Fates again.

We then got another trailer on May 4, aka Star Wars Day, which showed us more Inquisitors and Obi Wan’s new life on Tatooine where he’s been hiding in exile. Most importantly, this trailer ends with the iconic sound of Darth Vader breathing, showcasing the return of the greatest villain in Star Wars history. We can’t wait.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Intrigue

So what do we know about the Obi Wan Kenobi series so far? Well, not hugely, but we do know that Star Wars’ most iconic villain, Darth Vader, will make an appearance with his army of Inquisitors. Expanded Universe fans will know all about them, but we’ve put together an explainer for people who hopped on Rebels.

We’re going to avoid putting actual episode spoilers in this guide, so it’s just speculation based on what was seen in the trailers. We’ll have in-depth episode reviews shortly after they go live, if you want to keep up with what’s going on in the series.

Spoilers for Star Wars: Rebels ahead…

The Sith Inquisitors are a squad of former Jedi who surrendered to the dark side of the force during the events of Order 66. Although they are not officially Sith Lords, as only two Sith Lords can exist at the times in Star Wars canon, they serve just below the ranks of the Sith Lord.

Trained by Darth Vader, these mercenaries were used during the years following Order 66 to hunt down the last Jedi who still roamed the galaxy. Although it has been speculated that there could be up to 12 members of the group according to some Star Wars reference books, only 10 have currently made an appearance in various TV shows and video games.

From what we gleaned from the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, they will pose a significant threat, likely sent to Tatooine to search for the Force Sensitive Child who later grows up to blow up the star of death and ending the reign of The Empire.

Their leader, The Grand Inquisitor, can be seen in the trailer played by Rupert Friend. A former guardian of the Jedi Temple, the Grand Inquisitor fell to the dark side after observing how the Jedi treated Ahsoka Tano, which also led to his disillusionment with the Jedi way. As the Grand Inquisitor’s fate is revealed in Star Wars: Rebels, it will be interesting to see his live-action portrayal, especially since he won’t be played by his Star Wars: Rebels voice actor, Jason Isaacs.

The Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister, the antagonists of Star Wars: Rebels Season 2, also appear in the trailer. These two are brutal warriors and we can’t wait to see them take on the legendary Jedi.

As part of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s announcement and the news that Ewan McGregor was on board, another Star Wars legend has joined the cast. Hayden Christensen, who was last seen with Vader’s signature helmet lowered to that charred face, will reprise his role as Darth Vader.

While Star Wars fans were thrilled with the return of the sand-hating hunk, it did raise a few questions. Most Star Wars fans assumed that after their duel on Mustafar, master and apprentice only met once more, their final battle on the Death Star in Episode IV.

However, it looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi may present a battle between them, or at least some sort of interaction between them, in the years between them. It’s also possible that Hayden will appear in flashbacks, though he was specifically noted as returning as “Darth Vader”, so it looks like he’ll be donning the familiar black costume.

In the incredible trailer, although we’re not looking at the legendary villain, we hear a very brief snippet of Vader’s telltale breathwork just as the title pops up on screen. It’s unclear how many episodes Hayden has signed up for, but we suspect the Sith Inquisitors will be the primary threat during the series while Vader shows up near the end for a penultimate confrontation with his former master.
