FIFA 23 cover

EA Sports have revealed that Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr will both be the cover stars of FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition.

Sam Kerr will become the first ever female footballer to play on the front of a FIFA match outside of North America and Australia. Kerr secured third place in the Women’s Ballon d’Or in 2021, while winning the Women’s Super League Golden Boot in the previous two seasons.

Mbappé has been Ligue 1’s top scorer in four of the last five seasons. He recently signed a lucrative new contract extension with PSG, despite interest from Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Gameplay

The biggest new feature in FIFA 23 will be the inclusion of women’s club football. Barclay’s FA Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema will be present for the very first time. We’re guessing this means you’ll be able to support a women’s soccer club for Career Mode, although this hasn’t been confirmed yet.

EA has revealed that it will offer post-launch content for upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 tournaments at no additional cost.

FIFA 23 will see women's football clubs added to the game

EA is also highlighting its new HyperMotion2 technology (not available on PS4 and Xbox One), which will reportedly be capable of delivering over 6,000 “true to life” football animations. The company also teased a new risk versus reward shooting mechanic, refreshed free kicks/penalties/corners, as well as more realistic physics.

Ultimate Team will of course return, this time with a revamped chemistry system, while Career Mode will offer “a new way to play your season with Playable Highlights”. Pro Clubs and Volta Football will also be playable.

EA promised to offer even more information on the new gameplay on July 27, before giving us additional details on the various game modes throughout August. We’ll be sure to update this article with any new information, so keep this page bookmarked for more on FIFA 23.
