RoboCop Rogue City is the dream RoboCop game that fans of the 80s classic have been waiting for, well, forever. It was announced at NACON Connect 2021, before finally getting a gameplay reveal in July 2022 that seemed to capture the atmosphere of the series and show off bloody first-person gameplay. The developers, Teyon, have recently made a name for themselves lovingly creating video game adaptations of 80s action movies like Rambo and terminator. RoboCop Rogue City seems to be their most ambitious project yet, so read on for all the info we have on the release date, trailers, gameplay, and more.
RoboCop Rogue City: release date
RoboCop Rogue City has a June 2023 release window, which means it’s just under a year away from the date of writing. We expect to get a concrete date in June once the game gets closer. When the game was initially announced, it was just given a vague 2023 release window, so the reveal of a June 2023 release date makes it seem like the game is on the right track.
RoboCop Rogue City: trailers
The RoboCop Rogue City trailer arrived during NACON Connect 2021. It was a simple teaser that had a voiceover of a news report that talked about the rise in crime in Detroit, before going through the logo RoboCop and finally reveal it. It ended with a short scene of RoboCop’s Auto-9 gun appearing on the side of his leg.
The following trailer came during NACON Connect 2022, revealing much more about the game’s tone and story, while showing off the gameplay. It started with a voiceover similar to the trailer that talked about Detroit’s rising crime rate as well as the deaths of over 20 police officers. It showed off a series of in-engine environments before switching to actual first-person gameplay as RoboCop battles tons of criminals and even a large robot.
Perhaps the biggest reveal of the trailer was the final scene, as we see RoboCop without his mask walking towards the camera. It turns out to be original actor Peter Weller’s face model, who also delivers the iconic line – “dead or alive, you come with me”.
RoboCop Rogue City: gameplay
We don’t know much about the gameplay yet, with the gameplay trailer being our only window into how the game will play out. Obviously it’ll be in first-person, but there also seems to be some sort of targeting system based on the film, where a green reticle will zero in on an enemy, focusing your weapon on them.
RoboCop has the ability to interact with the environment and enemies, as one scene shows him ramming a large dumpster at criminals before picking one up and throwing them away. There’s also a focus on gore, which the original movie brought out on comedic levels, as a few enemies get their heads blown off after being downed.
Whether the game is level-based or whether there is a central world you can explore is unknown at this time. We also don’t know where this will take place in the RoboCop timeline.
RoboCop Rogue City: platforms
The game is set for a wide release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
