In the dead of night, Malik Khan (Thief one‘s Ahmed Rice) suddenly arrives at his young sons Jay (Lucian-River Chauhan) and Bobby (Aditya Geddada). Although he hasn’t seen them in years, he intends to take them away on top secret affairs. But is the mission – and the alien threat it entails – real, or is it all in Malik’s head?
This is the configuration for Meet, a new sci-fi thriller arriving early next month. The intense new trailer has arrived and that certainly couldn’t make the film’s central conflict any more ambiguous.
The official description is also deliberately vague: “A decorated Marine goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from a mysterious threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous directions, the boys will have to put their childhoods behind them. In the trailer, we certainly see some of the surreal and wild things that convinced Malik of an alien situation. But are we just seeing the prospect of an unreliable, possibly paranoid character – and could all these law enforcement agencies just go after a father who may have kidnapped his children? Even Malik’s son isn’t sure whether or not to believe his father, and it’s clear that the point of the movie is to get you guessing.
Ahmed (Oscar nominee for last year The sound of metal; beyond the domain of Star wars, he also appeared in Venom, Somnambulist, The OA, and The night of) has proven to be an exciting actor no matter what genre he enters, and Meet seeks to give it another role of showcase. Directed by Michael Pearce (Beast) who co-wrote with Joe Barton (The ritual), Meet Also stars Octavia Spencer and Oscar winner Rory Cochrane (Oculus, Wood). The film hits theaters on December 3, then hits Prime Video on December 10.
