Sleek 30-Second Retractable Camper Trailer Gains Versatility

The Dutch-designed TakeOff trailer from Easy Caravanning first caught our eye in 2020, reminding us of a motorhome pop-up roof on wheels, but with a full floor plan including a kitchen. The sleek little pop-up has always been a versatile powerhouse, offering a low, aerodynamic ride height for riding, a spacious indoor/outdoor living space at camp, and a simple 30-second setup process separating the two. With its latest floor plan, the TakeOff brings even more versatility to the hitch, providing users with flexible interior daytime use and quick and simple transitions between day and night.

The TakeOff’s quirky, main floor plan remains quite attractive, centered around a two-sofa living-dining room that converts into a 63 x 81-inch (160 x 205 cm) queen bed that’s a few inches square more than a residential queen. Easy Caravanning now adds a second floor plan it calls the semi-fixed bed plan, a hybrid design that splits the bed into a fixed upper section and a convertible lower section.

The new semi-fixed bed floor plan has the kitchen directly inside the entrance, a small convertible dinette further and the fixed part of the bed all the way forward

The lower bed segment converts into a small dinette during the day, leaving the fixed section in place full time. So one person can lounge in bed (legs bent or hanging over a bench in the dinette) while the other works or eats a meal at the dining table. This flexibility is not possible on the original floor plan since only the bed or dinette is installed at a time.

The new layout makes a lot of sense for those using the TakeOff as a two-person motorhome, as they wouldn’t need such long dining couches on a regular basis, but might like the bed access during the day. At night, campers move the dining table and add some throw pillows to create the full 63 x 81 inch bed. They can also leave out the central cushion at the foot of the bed to create a double single bed style layout that allows each person to get out of bed more easily and also provides better access to the dining bench door that accesses the storage space for the optional portable toilet.

The new layout also contains ample storage space under the strut-assisted lift-up fixed bed area. Other than that, it doesn’t change the rest of the floor plan, leaving the same indoor/outdoor kitchen option in the back, with a cooler console on the right side of the front door and a storage box. two-burner cooktop on the other side.

Easy Caravanning does not list updated weights for the new 16.1 ft (4.9 m) TakeOff floor plan, but the originals weighed 1,300 lb (590 kg) or less, so the latest versions are certainly light. Easy Caravanning designed the TakeOff with small electric vehicles in mind.

Easy Caravanning showed off the new semi-fixed bed platform during the European motorhome show season last fall and plans to have it in dealerships this spring. It will cost an additional €495 ($560) over TakeOff’s base prices, which range between €15,595 and €20,795 (about US$17,700 and $23,600) depending on the gear level.
