Sony releases first Uncharted trailer with Tom Holland

After countless delays, the movie Uncharted released its first trailer starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Walhberg as Sully.

After so many delays and false starts, one could forgive the fans for doubting that the Unexplored the film would one day arrive on the big screen. However, the long-developed and highly anticipated video game adaptation is one more step towards reality with the release of the first trailer.

Sony launched the first images of Unexplored with Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully. The trailer plays up the action movie dynamic between the Netherlands and Wahlberg, as well as the great adventure story of the treasure hunt. He seems to be strongly influenced by the Indiana Jones movies while also featuring large action pieces that seem straight out of a Fast Furious movie.

Based on the massively popular video games of Naughty Dog, the Unexplored The film is a prequel story detailing Drake’s introduction to the world of treasure hunting as well as how he came to meet and befriend Sully. The trailer also hints at a plot involving Drake’s brother who Sully also knew. The film also stars Antonio Banderas as the main villain and is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom, the land of zombies).

The film had a long way to come to this with various directors signing up for the project only to later drop out and start the film over from scratch. Some of the directors who have been attached at one point or another include Seth Gordon, Travis Knight, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, and even Oscar-winning actor David O. Russell. There have also been a number of actors surrounding the role of Drake, including Mark Wahlberg before he played the role of Sully.

While the Unexplored games have always had a very cinematic action movie feel, there was always some concern that a movie adaptation would just seem unnecessary. Judging from the first trailer, the film did a pretty decent job of reflecting the style of the games. While it probably appeals to a lot of fans, the character dynamics may not be as popular. A prequel story for the first Unexplored the movie seems like an odd choice and young Nathan Drake just doesn’t seem like the hero most fans know from games. Holland is a very charismatic and endearing star, but it seems he is too young for the role. However, given what he’s done to make Spider-Man his own, and with the full-scale adventure the trailer promises, Unexplored might end up worth the long wait.

Unexplored hits theaters on February 18, 2022.
