The documentary ‘Til the Wheels Drop’ now has a trailer

In November, we wrote about HBO acquiring the documentary Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Drop Duplass Brothers productions by Mark and Jay Duplass. At that time, the Sam Jones-directed documentary only had a premiere date of 2022. Well, it’s now been announced as a premiere on HBO and HBO Max on April 4th, and HBO has also released a trailer this week:

An interesting element of this trailer is the amount of archival footage. Clearly, this won’t just be telling the story of Hawk’s life to date and featuring new interviews with him (and many of those will be featured as well), but also show some early footage from his career. And it might be worth it.

It’s also remarkable to hear Hawk talk about the pros and cons of fame, with lines like, “I never thought I’d be famous. But it’s the worst drug. … I was really alone. And I had to go make a change. I didn’t understand how to be a husband or a father, because I didn’t know how to live in my skin. So there’s a lot here that potentially goes beyond the world of skateboarding itself, and that’s pretty remarkable for a project authorized with subject involvement.

Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Drop will premiere on HBO on April 5 and will also be available to stream on HBO Max. It is directed by Sam Jones and produced by Mel Eslyn, Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass.
