After years of delays and extensions, the sequel to filmmaker James Cameron’s Avatar, titled Avatar: The Way of the Water, was recently announced. While fans are excited to explore the adventure on Pandora, a lucky few have received the first images of the upcoming installment – as it debuted at Disney’s CinemaCon showcase in Las Vegas on April 27. The film’s first trailer was set to drop alongside Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness in theaters on May 6. However, the Avatar: The Way of Water trailer has leaked online.
A bunch of links to the leaked images have been circulating on social media. However, the majority of them have been deleted by the respective Twitter users. “Avatar 2 trailer Oh my God I shouldn’t have gone looking but it leaked and my God I’m crying it’s so pretty they’re coming home,” it reads. in a tweet. Some even said that other than being “visually stunning”, nothing was appealing about the trailer, which was leaked online.

For the uninitiated, Disney inherited the Avatar franchise after acquiring 20th Century Fox in 2019. On April 27, it unveiled new images from the highly anticipated film at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of movie theater owners. Participants were given 3D glasses to watch and seven into Pandora with the trailer – which had almost no dialogue.
The Avatar sequel would have debuted on December 16, and the other sequels are scheduled for December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.
