This week we were teased with a bit of the trailer for George Miller’s next film, Three thousand years of nostalgia, which only made his fans want to know more. Yesterday the official key art for the movie was released with the promise of the full trailer dropping today, and that promise has been delivered! The trailer is here and it looks like one hell of a ride through this engrossing fantasy drama.

According to the film’s official synopsis, “Dr. Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – satisfied with life and a creature of reason. While attending a conference in Istanbul, she meets a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for her freedom. There are two problems with that. One, she doubts he’s real, and two, because she’s a specialist in history and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. Djinn pleads her case by telling her fantastical stories from her past, and eventually she is seduced and makes a wish that surprises them both. The film also stars Kaan Guldur, Alyla Browne and Angie Tricker.

The trailer makes it look like it’s a mix of fantasy, with some really weird imagery, mythology, and everything in between. The film is an adaptation of the short story “The Djinn in the Eye of the Nightingale” by AS Byatt, and it will tour the Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, since its acquisition by MGM, it will be its first film to premiere at the festival following the close of its merger with Amazon in March.

Did you like the trailer? Three thousand years of nostalgia should hit the screens August 31, 2022.
