Watch the trailer for Netflix’s Neil Gaiman adaptation

Just because it’s a nightmare doesn’t mean you want to wake up, as evidenced by Neil Gaiman’s new trailer The sand man. As part of Geeked Week 2022, Netflix has now announced that the highly anticipated comic book adaptation will arrive on August 5th.

Tom Sturridge stars as Morpheus, The Sandman himself, and at the start of the teaser he offers his own intro. “I am the king of dreams,” he said softly. “Ruler of the Nightmare Realm.”

Originally seen in last year’s first look, this teaser offers another glimpse into the occult ritual that summons Morpheus to Earth. But it dwells much more on the consequences of the Dream King’s release from his natural habitat, both for this realm and for others. Johanna Constantine (Jenna Coleman), occult detective and ancestor of the famous Constantine comic, begins to piece together clues on Earth, as the nightmarish realm crumbles under the weight of the absence of its ruler.

“Forgive me, sire,” said one of his allies when he returned. “The palace, the kingdom, they are no longer as you left them. With your departure, the kingdom began to decay and crumble.

“Dreams and nightmares no longer seem to recognize their master,” Morpheus replies. “We will remind them.” The sand man also co-stars Gwendoline Christie (Lucifer), Boyd Holbrook (Corinthian), Vivienne Acheampong (Lucienne), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death), Asim Chaudhry (Abel), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Cain), Mark Hamill (Merv Pumpkinhead) and Patton Oswalt (Matthew the Raven). Check out the teaser below.

Elsewhere in the Gaiman verse, Amazon will release season 2 of the adaptation of good omens either later this year or early 2023. Gaiman is also contributing to Tori Amos’ graphic novel small earthquakeswhich falls in September.
