Watch the trailer for the Weeknd Super Bowl halftime documentary

If you want to see what a challenge it was to put on an elaborate Super Bowl halftime show during a pandemic, look no further than the upcoming Showtime documentary about Weeknd’s dazzling performance in the 2021 game.

The brief clip below shows just how planned the performance was, which was seen by around 100 million viewers worldwide.

Variety wrote in his review of the performance, “The Super Bowl halftime show is the biggest stage on Earth for a musician, and the Weeknd made the most of his 12 odd-numbered minutes on Sunday night, delivering a set tightly choreographed and technologically dazzling that has only lived up to some of the most iconic performances of the past, he’s also touched on songs and images from his entire ten-year career – and he’s done it under strict restrictions in the event of a pandemic. ”

The documentary, titled “The Show,” was first announced in February and is being produced by Pepsi’s in-house content studio and Boardwalk Pictures. Directed by Nadia Hallgren (Michelle Obama’s Netflix documentary “Becoming”), the feature documentary is scheduled to premiere on Showtime on September 24.

“This documentary is a unique insight into the passion, hard work and cinematic mindset that went into the creation of the series,” said The Weeknd. “It extends the narrative for fans and viewers who love to get lost in how the historic show we all grew up watching is constructed.”

“We have a window into the process of a diverse team of executives and creatives working at the highest level, in front of and behind the camera,” said director Nadia Hallgren. “It’s fun to see these masters at work while uplifting the others. Hope this can inspire people to pursue big dreams.

With his new single, “Take My Breath,” and the follow-up to his 2020 hit album “After Hours” coming in the next few months, The Weeknd will star and co-write a new HBO series with “Sam Levinson of Euphoria. , currently titled “The Idol”.
