Worthplaying | ‘Breakwaters’ Gets Early Steam Access Date

Breakwater changes the way you interact with water. Swim, sail and fly to find new islands with unique resources to build, craft and survive. Play solo or join friends online to explore, build a house to defend, defeat huge Titans, and calm the waves.

Solo or with friends, players explore a procedural world with dangerous ocean depths and neighboring islands while battling or avoiding terrifying Titans. Artifacts of a dead civilization beneath the waves, these massive monsters constantly roam the world, causing destruction. Can you earn the right to become a breakwater and stop the Titans?

Surrounded by a sea of mystery and possibility, one of the first things players will notice in Breakwaters is that the water behaves differently here. Powerful crystals are used to displace water and reveal harvestable resources and quests to complete. Different strategies, such as building walls to contain the ocean or block the waves, are essential in rebuilding and helping the world recover from the constant chaos inflicted by the Titans.

Breakwater is designed for three different types of players: settlers, explorers and adventurers. This means that players enjoy many different play styles, such as building, farming, combat / action, adventure and more. There’s something for everyone: Casual gamers who enjoy life sims can chill out on the beach to harvest resources, while gamers who crave action and adventure can battle huge Titans who torment an otherwise peaceful world.

Independent studio Soaring Pixels Games announced that Breakwater will be available on Steam Early Access on November 11, 2021.

“We had a lot of fun over the past 5 months in our closed beta testing. Seeing how fans interact with and experience the game has been great, and it’s been incredibly valuable during development, ”said Phillip Heckinger, Director of Soaring Pixels. “Thanks to this feedback from our fans and our amazing community, we are now ready to commit to an Early Access delivery date and look forward to starting our journey towards a full launch.”

Originally announced via Kickstarter earlier this year, Breakwater was funded in just 3.5 hours. Since achieving their initial fundraising goal, as well as several ambitious goals, the Soaring Pixels team has been busy preparing and perfecting some pretty cool features for the upcoming Early Access launch, including:

  • Boats. To build a boat, you must have blueprints and have access to a floating dock. Different plans can be found or purchased in the Breakwater world, each boat having different functions and characteristics, such as the number of gear slots they have, the location of those slots, and the weight of gear a boat can support. The type of ship you build plays a key role in your style play, and you will need to be strategic when choosing the best vehicle.
  • Boat craft. You need to think carefully about what gear you will equip on your boat and how you will use it. Without a crane on board, you might miss recovering sunken treasure from the bottom of the ocean. Or, without a cannon on board, you could lose this sunken treasure and more if you can’t defend yourself at sea. Other gear include fog lights, armor, ballista, sails, engines and more!
  • Online cooperative. No man is an island, not even in Breakwater. While the single-player experience is fascinating, exploring the open world of over 350 square kilometers is more fun with friends. Work together to build a base, team up to take on a Titan, or just walk along the shore and take in the views
  • Pumps and pipes. This feature set allows you to create plumbing systems that can drain bodies of water to reveal resources and pump water into structures for storage. Use water pressure to power gear and sensors to automate tasks on your property. By strategically using pumps and hoses, you can sculpt the world around you into the environment you need to successfully complete your quest to become a breakwater, whether it’s turning a valley into a lake. or create a devastating flood in the plains.
  • Crystals. Using pumps and hoses isn’t the only way to move water to your advantage. Powerful crystals hidden in the world around you can help you create water where none existed, push back the ocean to harvest resources, draw water into a confined area and more .
  • Floating docks. Not satisfied with living in a comfortable beachfront cabin with stunning ocean views? Use the floating dock feature to build the overwater bungalow of your dreams!
  • Flexible agriculture. A wide variety of farming options is just one way to create an island world that is both functional and beautiful. Whether you need to build a vegetable farm on a steep hill or want to spruce up your place with potted plants, the ability is there.

Main characteristics:

  • Online and solo cooperation.
  • The largest ocean simulation ever created in a game that creates a unique interactive open world experience.
  • Defeat Titans as big as an island and fight Golems as big as a house.
  • Collect crystals and refine them into objects that move and warp the ocean, revealing rich resources below.
  • Build structures that interact with ocean simulation on a global scale; transform a valley into a lake or open the gates and flood the plains.
  • Craft items to suit your playstyle, be it a farmer, explorer or adventurer.
  • Build and customize your ship to deal with the Titans, inclement weather, and local enemies.
  • A huge world filled with procedural islands and unique biomes.
  • Dynamic time and weather.

Breakwater arrives on PC (Steam) in 2022, followed by other PC portals and console platforms at a later date.
